Women's Entrepreneurship Day
November 19th marks Women's Entrepreneurship Day, a time to celebrate the incredible achievements of women at all levels in the business world.
Back in April 2020, during the chaos of a pandemic, I (Molly, the founder) found myself thinking, "What in the world can I do now?" I had graduated with a Masters degree the very same month that COVID shut everything down for us. Needless to say, I had more question marks in my mind than anything else. With job uncertainty lingering, I decided to do my very best at:
#1. Surviving
and
#2. Connecting with language learners and lending a hand with English.
At worst I thought it would just help me kill some time. At best it could spread some positivity and help me meet some cool people. What I never guessed or suspected was that I was actually starting my own entrepreneurship journey AND making meaningful connections with numerous women that would help me immensely in my future. And the cherry on top was that I was setting myself up to be able to be part of many women shaping their futures through language and overcoming fears.
🚀 Talk about exceeding expectations!
One of these students, Sofia, shared her dream of owning a bakery. Together, I remember brainstorming ideas, discussing logos and colors and vague ideas about business models. And not long after, 💫VOILA… Sunset Bakery came to life! While I like to believe that the inspiration for the "sun" imagery in Sofia’s logo came from a conversation I remember having in a lesson with her… it might not be true. 🤣Nonetheless, it's a sweet part of our shared journey. I am a huge fan of Sunset Bakery and I encourage you to try it out if you’re in the Central Valley of Costa Rica! 😉
Then there was Magdalena, who started taking classes with me with a 3 month old baby that she would feed during class as she tried to manage a million things as a new mom. She knew language skills were her ticket to brighter opportunities, so she took on the challenge and juggled it all.
And so like many other women too, like Diana, mastering English for interviews and job hunts—being testaments to the power of language in unlocking new doors. I also like to believe that having a cheerleader is also a huge help, and that is a role I fill proudly!
While not every woman we've met has embarked on their own entrepreneurial adventure (yet!). The dreams and ideas they share tell us one thing: potential is abundant and that is EXCITING. These incredible women fuel our passion for small businesses and inspire us every day.
So, on this Women's Entrepreneurship Day, join us in celebrating amazing women during any point of their Entrepreneurship journey . Support a local woman-owned business and never stop dreaming big yourself!
Happy Women's Entrepreneurship Day—let's keep championing each other's success! 🌟✨
