Meet Mike

Hey guys! 

My name is Mike and I’m originally from England. I moved to Costa Rica after meeting my Tica wife back in 2017 and have fallen in love with the country and my life here. (Mike’s love story)

My wife and I have a cat and 2 dogs and in 2023 we welcomed our son, Ben to the family! So now, all my time is  dedicated to my family, friends and the dogs (the cat is pretty self sufficient!)! 

I love music - both listening to it and playing it. You can also often catch me on the football pitch with some of the other teachers and SMWM students too! IN any free time I have, perhaps I’ll be learning a new song on the guitar or drums or learning about life from my son. (He is one of the best teachers I have ever had.) 

I’ve always been passionate about traveling and understanding the world around me. We all come from different places and have experienced the world in different ways, even if we are neighbors. This is something to be celebrated and talked about and is a key ingredient for my personal teaching style. 

A bit about me professionally, I am a Curriculum Developer and English Teacher with Speak More With Me. And academically, I have a Bachelor's degree in Product Design Technology and a Master’s degree in English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education. 

Throughout my time as a teacher and as a leader I have learned a great deal about how different people learn in different ways which has built upon what I knew about my own personal learning experiences and how to engage various demographics. I consider my job to be one of the best in the world because I am always meeting new people, learning about different countries and cultures and generating fantastic conversation.
