A Season of Change
When the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the world in March of 2020, I was forced to move out of my dorm at the University of Pittsburgh and back into my parents’ house. It felt like a regression, like I was going backwards and reverting to a lesser version of myself. Consequently, I was ecstatic when I finally got to move into my own apartment later that year. As much as I was in a rush for this to happen, moving into my first apartment taught me that the transitions in life should be taken slowly in order to fully appreciate where you currently are in life.
College can often be seen as a 4-year transitional period, where you truly transform from a teenager to an adult. I had felt this transition in my first 2 years at Pitt, but this step was the biggest change so far. It felt like the first real step to becoming truly independent as I was now taking on lifelong responsibilities like paying bills and rent and cooking for myself all the time. It was a little scary and overwhelming, but the process was made so much easier because I got to share it with my best friends and roommates.
I went through a roller coaster of emotions while living in this apartment and am so thankful for the experience. Now that I’ve moved out, it feels like the time I spent there went by so quickly, which reminds me to not to rush through life. It’s important to stop and enjoy every period of life, even the transitions, because they’ll be over before you know it!
